Black Springs – EL6831

Overview

EL6381 is located approximately 70km north-west of Goulburn and east of the village of Peelwood in eastern New South Wales. This Exploration Licence area is underlain by Late Silurian and Early Devonian sediments and volcanics of the Lachlan Fold Belt which are part of same group of rocks that host the Peelwood deposits. The area is prospective for VMS base metal deposits similar to those at Peelwood.

Previous Exploration

The area has been explored by a number of companies for base metals since the 1960s, with the most significant work being undertaken by Jododex and Asarco in the mid to late 1970’s. A number of base metal occurrences have been reported within the area, the most significant of which are the group of mineralized occurrences known as the Black Springs Prospect.

The Black Springs zinc-lead prospect has been tested by 20 widely spaced diamond drill holes. Nine of the holes intersected significant concentrations of zinc and lead sulphide mineralization. The best intersection was 4.0 metres of 9.6% zinc, 3.62% lead and 31g/t silver.

There are five zones of ironstone gossan that outcrop over a strike length of approximately two kilometres. The gossans have associated geochemical and geophysical anomalies.

Current Status

There has been little significant work since the mid to late 1970’s. Balamara has drilled one hole and may consider drilling various near surface targets in the future with the aim of adding to the resource at Peelwood.

The significant drill results from this program were (Hole SCBS1):

  • 4m at 0.33% Pb, 1.2% Zn and 14.6g/t Ag from 56m
  • 4m at 0.75% Pb, 2.75% Zn and 12.1g/t Ag from 64m
  • 2m at 1.65% Pb, 4.15% Zn and 31.2g/t Ag from 72m
  • 2m at 0.59% Pb, 1.07% Zn and 32.7g/t Ag from 84m
